About Me

Kia Ora! Welcome to the Malbec Pilgrim webpage. My name is Steve, and I set up this page to document my cycle travels from around the world, mainly from Europe and South America. I'm originally from New Zealand/Aotearoa, but these days mainly base myself out of Hackney in East London, UK.

The name Malbec Pilgrim is a tongue-in-cheek reference to my first longer-haul cycle tour, for 3 months/ 4200 kilometres across Patagonia (southern Chile and Argentina), from the world's most southerly city of Ushuaia (at the bottom of Argentina) up to Mendoza. Mendoza is the heart of the Argentine wine industry and the world capital of Malbec wine production, and you can be assured I took advantage for a week when I finished. Thus I came to think of that first long trip as my pilgrimage across the fabulous nature playground of Patagonia, to end up in the land of Malbec.

The picture above is taken from just outside of El Chalten, next to the iconic Fitzroy Ranges of Argentinian Patagonia.

This website includes my South America Blog from the nearly 10,000km between Ushuaia up to Peru's capital of Lima. You can also find some of my musings from Europe, plus some standalone Features I've written as well as some of my Publications on other websites.
